Genetic Testing

Genetic testing is an important tool for breeders like us to ensure the health and diversity of our Russell Terrier puppies. By identifying known genetic conditions, we can avoid breeding dogs that may pass on these diseases. In particular, there are four diseases that have been known to affect Russell Terriers and testing for these can help us make informed breeding decisions.

Russell Terriers

Spinocerebellar Ataxia
SAC

A genetic disease that affects a dog's cerebellum, causing poor movement coordination.

Hyperuricosuria
HU

An inherited condition that causes uric acid to build up in the urine, leading to stones in the bladder and kidneys.

Degenerative Myelopathy
DM

An inherited neurologic disease that causes gradual muscle wasting and incoordination in the hind limbs and then progresses to an inability to walk.

Primary Lens Luxation
PLL

A painful, inherited eye condition that causes the lens to move out of place. This can lead to glaucoma and inflammation.

Our Russell Terriers

We are excited to share that our breeding program has taken a significant step towards producing healthy and happy puppies. All of our dogs have undergone testing for the four diseases and have been cleared for breeding. We believe that healthy and happy parents are the foundation of a successful breeding program.
